Analysis of Technique

Julie thoroughly researches materials that she decides to illustrate. Many of her works incorporate native languages of Canadian First Nations. In these cases, she strives to accurately capture the spirit of the language. She uses collage to provide depth to her otherwise minimalist illustrations. She starts by sketching the illustrations out on paper, then she paints the backgrounds that she plans to use and assembles fabrics, papers, and other materials for collage (Paper Tigers, 2012). Once all of these pieces are transferred to the computer, she utilizes Adobe Illustrator to compose the final images.
