Analysis of Technique

Christian, like all great artists, starts the illustrating process with research (Higgins, 2014). He then moves on to sketching his ideas, until he feels that the designs can accurately portray the concept to the editor. From there, he storyboards using Post-it notes and creates a mock-up in Photoshop. Once the design is ready, he creates the final work using acrylic paint and collage. He often works in collage, mixing paints, paper, and colored pencil to create his illustrations (Brightly, 2016). He enjoys experimenting with different techniques. In particular, he is known for his cut-paper style, which is influenced by graphics from the 50s and 60s (The Art of the Picture Book, 2015).
